I am a hunter of the valley, and over the last 2 years the old growth is coming down fast, and in slashes of such size it’s shameful that contractors from all over the would treat our valley with no respect for our animals and our beauty. Island Timberlands owns 635,000 acres of forest lands. I’m sure there’s enough second growth of age now that they could leave the old growth that’s left seeing as they have changed their sustainded yield from 80-100 years to 35-55 years, only to rape the forest again like the good old days, and for the benefit of shareholders, people who most likely have never been to the valley. And the new scars on Arrowsmith and Upper Cameron valley are quite an eyesore for those of us who have already watched the valley being logged with no regard in the 1970s and 80s. We understand that it grows back, but at such a slow rate that our next generations will never know the hills, except for what’s in parks, and they’ll never know the freedom of hiking a mountain forest touched only by nature.
