We settled in Courtenay, and got a job in Nimpkish logging camp as a ‘chokerman’. A lot of mud and a lot of guys with a lot of guts and togetherness, while rain was pouring down day and night. As a logger in my home country Norway, this was an exploration to me. The company was by the way: Canadian Forest Products, I will remember. After a while I got a job for the Forestry as a faller, clearing up for a new road to Gold River. Quite an experience for a ‘rookie’ to fall those huge trees. I understand now that was to intrude into rainforest nature, but that was then. The snow came and no job in sight, but that was another story.
